Vorleseväter

Too few men read picture books to children—we want to change that! In the new reading series “Vorleseväter” (Reading Fathers), fathers, grandfathers, and other male caregivers present their favorite picture books to an adult audience.
The new Berlin reading series “Vorleseväter” aims to highlight male perspectives on children's literature. Fathers, grandfathers, and other male caregivers read their favorite picture books to an adult audience.
The world of children's and young adult books is predominantly female: female authors write, female editors edit, female librarians and jurors recommend – and when it comes to reading aloud, women usually take the lead. According to surveys by the Börsenblatt des Deutschen Buchhandels (German Book Trade Journal), women buy around two-thirds of all picture books and are the ones who read aloud in most families. But where are the men?
At the Vorleseväter reading evening on March 12 at Lettrétage, Benedikt Viertelhaus (bookseller and publisher), Christian Lisker (storyteller and pastor), and others will read from their favorite picture books. The event is aimed at adults interested in literature, parents, teachers, educators, literature mediators, and, of course, fathers, grandfathers, male caregivers, and anyone else with an interest in children's literature.
Moderator: André Zeugner (Kraus Verlag).
Admission is free, but prior registration is requested.
