Admittedly — literary institutions are not the main causes of climate change. However, we believe that the climate concerns everyone, and cultural institutions should also make their contribution where they can. Lettrétage has set out and, together with the Center for Cultural Research (ZfK), is the first literary institution in Germany to develop its own sustainability concept, which can be downloaded via the button above. For the first time, we have a sound basis for making effective decisions for sustainable cultural enterprises and turning existing knowledge into concrete savings. The individual measure doesn't sound earth-shattering — but when the switch to regional beverages results in half a ton less CO2 per year, that's better than nothing. Our biggest lever as cultural institutions, however, is our reach: When we invite our guests to travel to our events by public transport, we motivate them to adopt sustainable, resource-saving behavior in general, and then the small contributions from all of us multiply to a relevant figure.

Do you work in a literary institution and are facing similar questions and challenges? We are always happy to share our experiences and get in touch with you about sustainability issues.
