Roswitha Quadflieg — reflections and reading from two diaries: 1936 and 1946 — Samuel Beckett and Will Quadflieg

Two books from RQ are the basis of this evening:
“Beckett was here” (2006 Hoffmann and Campe, Hamburg) and „Ich will lieber schweigen. Das Tagebuch eines Schauspielers 1945/46 und die Fragen seiner Tochter“ (2025 Kanon, Berlin).
A comparison of these texts reveals two very different attitudes towards the Nazis – one before and the other after the Second World War. Recorded in notebooks and pocket calendars of two young men, safe in their coats. Two men who wrote cultural history in their own way.
