Poetry readings

Probador de poesías is an independent project for expanded literature readings that proposes an experimental space for authors, language and sound artists to explore different possibilities of performing their work. It has been running since October 2022 and in its 28 editions there have been presentations from around 130 poets from different backgrounds, some with renowned careers and some in the development of them.

For the 29th edition that will be held as part of the Barrio/Bairro festival, we will receive 6 artists that will perform their poetry in their singular ways. Stephanie Fernandes, Julián Galay, Lorena Izquierdo, Ginés Olivares, Mayara Stelmaschuk Melo and Mauricio Takara will bring their unique sound, voices and words to this exciting Probador in Lettretage. Our moderator, Regina Riveros, will start the evening as every time by creating an atmosphere of deep listening before the performances in order to attune the audience before entering into the poetic immersion.

Stephanie Fernandes is a Brazilian poet and translator based in Berlin. Stephanie is interested in how domestic objects, means of transportation, games, and electricity make up history on different scales, and has been working with visual experiments. She had poems published in
alba magazine and in the anthology RE/VERSIONEN (Neofelis Verlag, 2024). She recently translated and edited works by Gertrude Stein into Brazilian Portuguese.

Julián Galay is an "undisciplinary" composer working with sound, images, and language across concerts, performances, books, and experimental film. His body of work explores the unconscious of architectural spaces and scientific institutions, tracing their connections to supernatural and postnatural phenomena through various modes of listening. Based in Berlin.

Lorena Izquierdo is a vocalist, performer and poet from Valencia, Spain. She has spent the past 8 years building her independent artistic career between Spain and Germany, mostly residing in Berlin with the mission to build bridges between the two countries’ musical cultures.Her main interests are the interconnections of sound/voice with performativity and the lyrical and philosophical aspects involved in it.

Ginés Olivares (Santiago de Chile) studied Film and Television at Arcis University. Since 2002, he has lived in Berlin, where he works as a documentary film editor. He is the author of Vertically Challenged (AÑoñi Again Microediciones) and a member of the collective mmmmmfilms (UK-GER), with whom he explores the dialogue between poetry and visual narrative. Together with Cristian Forte, he participated in the expanded literature festival Sardam (Cyprus). In 2024, he was included in the anthology Voces periféricas and took part in the experimental poetry gathering Language is à Virus (Paris). He is currently working on Ungehorsam, a collection of visual and sound poetry.

Mayara Stelmaschuk Melo is a Brazilian coder, knitter and video artist based in Berlin. Mayara collaborates with musicians for visuals in sets and concerts. In recent years, she’s been experimenting with game design, and programming languages to translate digital images into wool patches. Her latest piece was shown at Kindl.

Mauricio Takara is a drummer / percussionist / improviser from São Paulo, Brazil; where he has long been a key player in the experimental music scene
as a member of São Paulo Underground and the sextet Hurtmold. Recently relocated to Berlin, Mauricio has consistently played as a duo with electronic musician Carla Boregas, with whom he released a record in 2022 called Grande Massa d'Água (on Hive Mind Records / UK), and played festivals like Le Guess Who, Rewire and Radical Sounds Latin America. Mauricio is also an active member of Berlin's improvising scene, and frequently plays as a
solo artist, where he dives deeper into the exploration of the possibilities of acoustic percussion in conjunction with electronics.
