You Are More Than Your Passport: Identity and Creativity

    10:00Eintritt frei

A workshop and discussion, moderated by R.M. Vaughan

In contemporary Western writing, especially creative writing, the identity of the author is now as important as the author's writing. The seemingly disparate life/work pursuits -- assessing and affirming one's identity and creative writing -- are now wholly entwined.

What are the best practices for this movement? What are the differences between Western European "identity art" and North American works in the same vein? How do we find our voices amidst all the noise of the world, and, how do we convey those voices once we find them? What are the practical career impacts of identity-based writing?

The first half of the workshop will focus on the practical aspects of this new reality, while the second half will be an open discussion about individual practices and concerns. This workshop is open to all. BIPOC and LGBTQ participation is highly encouraged!

RM Vaughan is the author of 11 books in four genres. Originally from rural Canada, he now lives in Montreal. He is currently the writer-in-residence at the University of New Brunswick.
