    Ibn Rushd Lecture: The Body and Ethics Philosophically

    The lecture will be held in Arabic and English.

    The Ibn Rushd Fund for Free Thought invites to the lecture 'The Body and Ethics Philosophically'. The lecture will explore the concept of the body in its relation to both love and ethics, as well as the role of social norms and political forces in constructing and defining the identity of the body and our perceptions of it.

    Maher Masoud  is a writer and researcher. He holds a Master's degree in Western Philosophy from Damascus University, Syria. Until 2017, he served as a professor at the French Institute for the Middle East (Ifpo) in Beirut, Lebanon. In 2016, he was awarded the Samir Kassir Prize for Press Freedom, and in 2017, he received the Hussein al-Aoudat Prize for Arab Press. Currently, he is a visiting scholar at the Center for Modern Oriental Studies in Berlin, focusing on research regarding "Tyranny and Sectarianism in Syria." Additionally, from June to December 2017, he held a scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
