In December, you can look forward to a wide variety of events at the Lettrétage, ranging from magazine releases, panel discussions and book premieres to musical performances and experimental reading formats. We invite you to a programme dedicated to exploring the connections and interfaces between literature, other arts and current socio-political issues – for example in the form of feminist perspectives on desire and corporeality in literature, the interaction of language and music, or solidary practices in the literary world.
On Friday, the 6th of December at 20:00, the magazine Erotic Review will celebrate the publication of its second issue. Moderated and curated by editors Saskia Vogel and Lucy Roeber, numerous authors from the new issue will present their work, including Agri Ismaïl on the stakes of desire in Kurdistan, Hanna Nordenhök with a gothic story about girlhood, Emily Waddell on erotic Star Wars fan fiction, Enuma Okoro and Ana Prvački on shunga (Japanese erotic art) and Jessica Stoya on “The Dress”, an artwork about sex work and spirituality.
Nahed Samour will be the guest in December on the kilmé talks series. On Monday, the 9th of December at 19:30, the academic will be in conversation with hosts Tyme Khleifi and Michael Barenboim. kilmé talks is a monthly series of talks that offers Palestinian artists, intellectuals and academics a platform to present their work and talk about topics that are important to them.
On Saturday, the 14th of December at 20:00, the Kross Collective presents the fifth edition of the event series “Convergence – a Cross-disciplinary Exploration of Experimental Arts”, which explores the relationship between sound, text and video. In addition to an experimental joint performance by core members of the Kross Collective, there will also be a musical performance by musician Alexandra Gruebler.
On Thursday, the 19th of December at 18:30, the mini-festival “Harping On: A mini-festival of contemporary Irish music and literature” is dedicated to a celebration of Irish music and literature. The evening will begin with two panel discussions, the first of which will focus on the importance of music in the works of Irish authors Wendy Erskine, Rob Doyle, Sinead Gleeson and Liam Cagney. The second panel discussion invites Irish techno musicians Sunil Sharpe, Kerrie and David Fogarty, who are making waves in national and international culture, not least in Berlin. Afterwards, there will be an afterparty at Säule im Berghain, where the three techno DJs will be playing.
The second edition of “Girl, Show me that body (of work)” will take place on Friday, the 20th of December at 20:00. Romanian journalist, author and curator Ioana Cristina Casapu presents a very special Christmas literary evening with 6 authors, artists and performers. Girl, Show Me That Body (of Work) aims to give established authors and previously undiscovered literary talents with migration background from Berlin’s FLINTA* communities a public stage together. The event includes literary readings and performative poetry.
